Loyola Marymount University - BA, Screenwriting. Graudated in 2008 with a 3.3. GPA!

Experience

I want to be a tutor because I believe that one on one teaching is the most effective method of teaching. The student feels more comfortable and free to ask questions and the tutor's attention is placed only on one student. I have tutored math and writing from 5th to 8th grade. I have taken graduate teaching courses from Azusa Pacific University. I am also a head mentor for YSF which is an organization that mentors children in writing their own screenplay!

Hobbies

As a kid, I excelled in art and writing at an early age. In addition to being imaginative, I excelled in academics. In my elementary school, I was always placed in the top groups and always received special honors. During adolescence, I started playing the drums. I played drums in my high school bands (Advanced Band and Jazz Band) and received the hall of fame award as well as the bank of america award for musicianship. It wasn’t until college I decided screenwriting was where I belonged. My TV Writing teacher said I was the best writer he’s had in five years. During my college years I also began doing stand up comedy and performed at various clubs in Los Angeles. In addition, in the summers between college years I worked for a summer camp, providing photographs and still video footage for the camp’s promotional videos and website. For two years after college I worked for Warner brothers, at Cold Case Star Kathryn Morris’ development company as a script reader, offering notes on scripts for movies and shows we helped develop. Although that company went defunct, Morris would agree I proved myself a valuable asset to the company and I still keep in touch with those with whom I worked. I then decided to go into teaching. Being creative as well as good at school, I felt I had a lot to offer in the field. Once again, I was right. After a few months working at daycare, I was offered the position of a full time teacher’s assistant and after my first year of that, I got a standing ovation from my students at the Teacher Appreciation Ceremony. Though I love being around children, my assistant duties of filing and xeroxing left me feeling unaccomplished. So, I sought to become a teacher! So far I have subbed from first grade to high school levels, including special ed. It’s so rewarding for me to use my talents and give something meaningful back to people to people who need it. I feel that being well rounded and experienced along with my love for teaching makes me a perfect candidate for this position.
