Education
Stanford University - BS, Biology: Ecology and Evolution
Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree in Biology from Stanford University, where I graduated with honors in Ecology and Evolution. I began tutoring while I was in the process of working toward my degree. I served as a teaching assistant for a plant ecology class at the college level, and also for a middle school environmental science class. I've also served as a naturalist for eco-cruises in Alaska and Baja California. I started a tutoring service for the children of Stanford staff, and worked with students ranging from elementary schoolers to high schoolers in subjects like algebra, biology, reading, writing, literature, environmental science, and ecology. I am also capable of helping students prepare for tests like the ACT, GRE, ISEE, HSPT, SAT, and SSAT. Though I'm able to tutor a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about teaching ecological and environmental sciences. As a tutor, I like to have my students teach the concepts we are working on back to me, as this helps them retain concepts much better than a lecture-based session. I also like to have students develop their critical and independent thinking skills as I encourage them to ask questions and take part in discussion. In my spare time, I enjoy working with marine mammals, mountain biking, exploring new hiking trails, and reading.
